Ministry in the top end

Posted by Rob

Praise God for the work He is doing amongst Australians up north through our resident evangelist and Apostle to Australia – David and his team! They have just returned from an outreach stretching from Darwin-Broome-Perth.

As usual our project involved other community development initiatives, where we taught them good hygiene, helping out with domestic chores, basic support services, building repairs, responsible living seminar, budgeting and breaking addictive patterns. We ended up giving out thousands of New Testaments. There were also souls won to Christ and also many miraculous healings!!
Thank God for His protection, provision & grace for us all over the last few months, also over the outreach teams and the positive reports coming back!!
Praise God for 2012, thank Him for the incredible gift of knowing and serving Him!

Merry Christmas

Posted by Rob

Merry Christmas to all our friends and family wherever you may be!
Just a quick update – all our outreach teams got away safley and are in location doing ministry galore. Thanks for your prayers for team Uganda – it was tight for a while but they got there in the end.
Back on the home front – today we had our annual Christmas cookie morning. As a staff we all bake cookies, bring them in and package them up to give to business’ and other people we work with throughout the year. It is a fun morning, seeing who baked what, and of course sampling the wares! Now we are busy dropping them off around the coast and spreading a little Christmas cheer at the same time.
Sunday is our Staff Annual Christmas Party (SACP for short….except SACP does not run off the tounge – we will work on that) and it is exciting. Every year we have a competition for the best Christmas costume. Past years have been pretty awesome with people coming as whole Nativity scenes, and fully functioning Snow Globes! Who knows what this year will bring. We also have a fun surprise – but you will have to wait to find out what we are doing this year.

Hey, did you know we have a facebook page? Yeah, its true. Go on over to YWAM Sunny Coast and add us to your fav’s and stay in the loop.

July Waves and Around the World DTS have begun.

Posted by Rob

It is all go here on the coast. Our July Waves and Around the World DTS are already in full swing. The students are pressing into God and He is showing up big time! It is an amazing time to set aside and just press into God and get His passion for the nations and his creation. There is awesome worship, passionate prayers, stretching lectures, and inspiring local outreach…and we are just getting started.
We are also enjoying some of the most beautiful weather we have had this year. After a wet start of the year, the days are now sunny with beautiful clear blue skies. The day time highs are around 21 degrees / 72F – as we say here, “beautiful one day, perfect the next!”

The SBS graduated in June – it was so inspiring to hear the students tell their journeys over the past nine months. SO much growth. If you have done a DTS and want to get the best understanding of the Bible you can get in nine months then the SBS might just be for you. We guarantee you will be stretched, but will come to the end having grown and with a deep understanding of the word of God that will set you up for life. The next SBS starts in late September.

Our skate ministries are pumping – and we have some very exciting things happening next month…but we will tell you about them next time! Stay tuned.

Outreaches are almost over!!

Posted by Rob

Hard to believe but our January DTS has almost finished its outreach phase. There is just one last week for the teams before heading home to the Sunny Coast for Debrief and Reentry week.
The teams have been having an awesome time sharing the gospel and seeing many people come to faith in Jesus.
Just as a reminder we have teams in Uganda, Taiwan, Philippines, and Indonesia. I was in Uganda for a couple of weeks and was able to stay with the team and catch up with them – man they have been going hard. The team have been doing lots of seminars, open air crusades, evangelism and kids ministries and have seen hundreds of people come to faith – watch this space for a final count. Obviously, the need is for discipleship – and that is up to John and Naomi our YWAM staff who are pioneering a base there in Uganda. Right now they are running a pastors training school that has 75 participants and more are enrolling for the next years school already!
Team Philippines arrived after spending one month in the jungle villages of PNG. Since arriving in Philippines they have been working with out long time contact Pastor Pat and his church helping to run the Kingdom Builders Camp, doing skate and wake ministry and hosting a discipleship training week.
The Surfers team just arrived in Kupang and got connected with a local to do some ministry for a couple of days. They got to share a message to a school as well as stories about what Jesus has done in their lives, and it was great. All the kids loved it and were really hungry to hear more about Jesus. They also got to share at a small training week which was for young local ladies to get trained to be midwives, so they could go into their villages and deliver babies as well as being able to share about Jesus in the villages. This sounded like an awesome idea and it was great to see 20+ locals stoked on Jesus.
Finally, here is a little update from Team Taiwan -
” A mens prison was the location of our first morning of ministry! Arriving into a hall packed with over 200 men all in prison uniforms was an extremely daunting experience! We were informed that these men had mostly committed crimes relating to robbery, drugs and murder. It may have been hard to imagine at this point that our performance could have made any impact, but we were all in for a surprise. After finishing our final ‘Saviour’ drama, Luke began to explain the gospel… the power of the gospel came alive. God was clearly moving amongst the men as so many of them were crying. At the end of the message some people raised their hands to accept Jesus- right at that moment seven prisoners entered God’s Kingdom! The man who gave us the opportunity to perform in the prison was the prison pastor and so he was able to take note of these seven men so that he could give them bibles and disciple them.”

All the teams arrive back on the coast this coming weekend – so we are looking forward to hearing more stories and sharing in the celebration. The school will graduate Friday evening June 3rd.

Outreach begins in 48 hours!!!

Posted by Rob

Okay, it is getting crazy around here – the teams leave in 48 hours for outreach and everyone is pretty hyped on going!  We are still in lectures this week, but the place is a buzz with teams making their last minute preparations, and practicing dramas etc.  Speaking of which, the teams will give us a sneak peak tomorrow morning – so if you are in town you can come by and check it out – or keep an eye on youtube!

In other news – the Geltch family arrive back on Thursday after 3 months living and serving in Bali, Indonesia.  They have been working with the local community, visiting jails, working with churches, and doing a whole lot of skate and surf ministry

Also arriving in a few days are the Naus family – Sean, Emily, and Elijah to join us on staff.  Sean and Emily were a part of the community a while back but then headed back over to the good ole US of A to get hitched and (after they were married) then had Elijah.  So now the family are heading back down unda with a heart to reach out to the local community and perhaps even plant a church!

January 2011 DTS

Posted by Rob

We are already into week 10 of the lecture phase of the DTS and outreach is coming up fast!  The DTS has been awesome – God has been moving in huge ways daily.  One of my favourite times has been on Wednesday morning when we spend an hour waiting on God.  During this time we all come together and just wait on God to speak to us.  It does not take long before people start sharing the words, pictures, and impressions they are getting.  We write everything up on the board and then see what God is saying.  It is just amazing how all of the different words come together into a common theme that God is sharing with us.  Then we respond to God.  Sometimes it is praying, sometimes there are things we need to do – but every time there is an excitement as it is so evident that God is present.  Sweet times.

One other highlight would have to be week 7 of the lecture phase – Prayer week.  During that week we are all scheduled to be in the prayer room 24/7.  We go in for 3 hours at a time in small groups.  It was insane how thick the presence of God was in the prayer room that week.  God was doing and saying so much.  In addition to the prayer room we also meet corporately in the mornings and evenings for worship and prayer.  These times are very fluid as we just get worshipping and then see where God wants to go.  We were all amazed at how close God was during the week – but also challenged that it can be like that every week of our lives if we are expectant and seeking His face.

So outreach is just 10 days away now!  Everyone is excited.  This school we have teams heading to Taiwan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea/Philippines, and Australia/Indonesia.  The team in Taiwan will be engaging in all sorts of ministry – English corners, University, Coffee houses, you name it.  In Uganda we are coming alongside a YWAM Sunny Coast training school that has 80 church ministers enrolled.  We will be helping with the school and also involved in large event outreaches in the local towns.  PNG is an amazing place, the team will be hiking into the jungle to live in and minister to the villages (this is hard core jungle living), before flying to the Philippines where we are linking in with our long term friend Pastor Pat and his church.  There is a big skate and wake board culture in the area, which suits us just fine!  Finally, we have our Surf outreach which is travelling down the East coast of Oz catching waves and working with Christian Surfers before heading over to West Timor in Indonesia.  The waves willl be pumping…and so will Jesus!

Check back with us for updates!
