The School of Biblical Studies (SBS) is a nine-month course in which students study through each of the incredible 66 books of the Bible.

Students are taught an inductive approach, in which students observe what the text says and then let it shape their beliefs.

In these nine-months you will study about Gods beating heart for the lost, identity and fullness in Christ, and God’s plan of redemption for mankind.

Whether you’re called to full time ministry in the unreached parts of the 10/40 window, want to start a business in your hometown, or work at a multi-national SBS will aid you in your calling.

Having a Biblical foundation will influence how you live your life, make decisions and interact with others.

SBS not only teaches you how to study the Bible for
yourself, it also equips you with the tools needed to give Gods Word to others.

These 9 months are an investment that will shape the rest of your life.

SBS Seminars are four separate week long seminars designed to provide a broad but detailed understanding of history and theology.  The seminars are offered at different times of the year and cover the following topics:

New Testament
Old Testament
The life of Paul
Church History

These seminars are intensive weeks of seminar and study.  Our hope is that each seminar will challenge and deepen your understanding and strengthen your faith.

New Testament

The New Testament Theology seminar is designed to give a brief overview of important theological topics in the New Testament. We will cover topics such as the trinity, justification, sanctification, baptism and how in depth knowledge of these can solidify your faith . We will look at the central themes of the New Testament through the Gospels, John’s work, and some of Paul’s epistles. We aim to tackle the critical questions of the New Testament, tie these themes together, and give you a broader picture of the New Testament as a whole.

Old Testament

The Old Testament Seminar aims to give you a better understanding of the big picture of the Old Testament by walking through Israel’s history and what God was trying to accomplish through them. The goal is to obtain a better understanding of the whole of the Old Testament, particularly of the God of the Old Testament and His working through history and the nation of Israel, in order to better understand the fulfillment of the Old Testament in Jesus Christ. We will also address significant themes such as historical settings and issues, the Hebrew text, and literary types of the Old Testament. The hope is that this seminar will give you a heart for the unfolding story of God’s plan of salvation.

The Life of Paul

The life of Paul seminar is designed to gain an overview of Paul’s life and understand how his culture and background shaped his understanding of the death and resurrection of Jesus the Messiah.  As we follow Paul through his early life, conversion and his mission we will analyze and interpret the major themes and topics that form the foundation of Paul’s theology.  We will cover topics such as Justification, Election, Union with Christ and Eschatology. Our aim is to get into Paul’s mindset so we can better understand his conversion experience, his mission to further the Kingdom of God, and his theology in teaching the church.

Church History

The Church History seminar aims to give a broad picture of what God has been doing through the Church through the ages. The history of the Church is an unfolding story; one to be participated in, not one to be simply read objectively. We will look at how the Church Fathers influenced church history and the important theological decisions made by the Church. We will cover topics such as various churches theologies, the reformation, and how these things effect us today. The benefit of learning the history of the church is to broaden your perspective outside the Protestant mindset, which will result in a more well rounded theology.

During the school, students survey each book and discover the big picture, while also digging into the details paragraph by paragraph.

Emphasis is placed in understanding the cultural and historic background of each author and original reader of a book.

The student interprets Scripture with the mindset of the original reader then takes the timeless truths and applies them personally. Students are given hands-on instruction in the principles of observation, interpretation, and application.

SBS staff will meet weekly with the students to aid in their personal growth, understanding of Scripture, and application of the inductive method.

Located about an hour north of Brisbane on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of Australia, students will have the opportunity to partake in daily activities such as: surfing, hiking, and exploring the endless coffee shops along the coast.

The SBS property is walking distance to shops and a quick drive to the beach, so walking on the sand while enjoying the sunset is a favorite way to end the day for our students.

Pool volleyball is also a favorite amongst students during study breaks.

And for the surfers, the closest surf beach is an eight minute drive.

On an average week in the School of Biblical Studies, students will attend lectures on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Aside from lectures, students will spend approximately
50-60 hours per week studying the Scriptures.

For nine months, the main responsibility for students is to study the Word! It’s truly a unique opportunity and privilege. There will also be times of worship, intercession, discipleship, and fun!

Also, once a week there will be the opportunity to get out into the community through wake boarding, surfing, leading youth groups, helping at soup kitchens, and teaching on our New Testament Overview to the DTS’s.

Completion of the Discipleship Training School and Field Assignment (IDS 701/702) or Crossroads Discipleship Training School (IDS 703/704).

With completion of the SBS I, II and III you will also receive a Certificate IV in Bible Ministry (10516NAT).

Tuition for SBS is $3,750 AUD per quarter. This includes food, housing, and school costs. So the total tuition for 9 months is $11,250 AUD.
